PeaceKeeper's Toybox Misc.: Star Trek Wrath of Khan Phaser

So I went to Wizard World Chicago this weekend and much to my surprise I was able to see the new Phaser from AA/DST! When I arrived on Friday the person I spoke with said that the prototype would be arriving on Saturday. Well first thing Saturday, I made my way to the booth and to borrow a quote…."There she is (or was in this case)!"

Peacekeeper Comics: Star Trek: Assignment Earth

During the second season of Star Trek: The Original Series, Gene Roddenberry wrote an episode that he planned to be a pilot for another series. The episode introduced viewers to Gary Seven, a human being that was raised by highly advanced aliens and trained to work at protecting the human race. Together with his beautiful shape shifting cat Isis and his secretary, Roberta Lincoln, Seven was to have many adventures. This series never happened but the episode stands as one of the better episodes of Trek’s three-year run. Gary Seven and company lived on in various novels including the Khan books by Greg Cox.

Peacekeeper Comics: The Dresden Files

If J.K. Rowling and Raymond Chandler had bastard love child it would be Harry Dresden. Alas, they did not; Dresden is the literary creation of Jim Butcher. The character has spent 10 novels fighting the good fight against evil as the only wizard in the Chicago Yellow Pages. His life isn’t like other wizards we know of who go to cushy schools and have owls that deliver the mail; this Harry spends his days trying to stay ahead of bill collectors and getting fed.

The Splash Page Comics: Crayon Shinchan Vol. 1

So tell the truth. You love Shinchan, right? I mean, what's not to love? He's a five-year-old obsessed with, well, pretty much exactly the same thing that obsesses most guys whose ages end in the number five (15, 25, 35, you get the point): what happens under people's clothes.

The Splash Page Comics: Trade Marks: JLA Presents: Aztek the Ultimate Man

I've finally done it. I think.

I've finally made the switch from floppies to trades. Oh, don't get me wrong. I'll still pick up the occasional monthly book, but no longer will I spend $2.99 a pop for my five minute fix of comics crack. Now don't think for a minute that this wasn't a hard decision for me. I mean, it's not that I was buying a lot of books all that regularly anyway, but there's something about the satisfaction of that weekly trip to the LCBS that scratches a certain itch, you know?

Peacekeeper Television: In Plain Sight

I have to admit, I love Mary Shannon. In Plain Sight, a new show premiering on the USA Network, follows the cases of two agents of the Witness Protection Services, Mary Shannon played by Mary McCormack (ER, The West Wing) and Marshall Mann played by Fred Weller (Law and Order: Criminal Intent). After just watching the premier episode I must admit I might just be hooked. The interaction between in McCormack and Mann is amazing you get the idea these two have really been partners for years. McCormack is great at playing the strong willed Mary, a United States Marshall that is as abrasive as she is beautiful. McCormack’s character of Mary Shannon is sarcastic and smart and like a real person she has problems balancing work and family. Mann does a great job playing Marshall (yes, a marshal named Marshall) who is witty and a perfect contrast to Mary’s brash attitude.

Knight_Ranger Comics: Clockwork Game: The Illustrious Career of a Chess-Playing Automaton

Written and Illustrated by Jane Irwin

The story of Clockwork Game is almost too fantastic to believe: In 1770, a talented Hungarian nobleman named Wolfgang von Kempelen created a machine that was capable of playing chess. His creation, dubbed The Turk, played a unique game against each opponent he faced. The machine seemed to have a mind of it’s and audiences all over Europe flocked to see this marvel of human creation in action. The Turk outlived its creator by several decades, touring as far away as the United States and Cuba playing against many famous opponents.

Peacekeeper Television: The Next Food Network Star

I have to admit something dear readers, I am a foodie. My ever expanding waist is proof of that fact. The Food Network is my ESPN and the chefs on there are my sports heroes. I can watch Food Network all day and I can do is think, “Gods I am hungry!” Funny thing is when I met Alton Brown last year I was more nervous than when I met William Shatner. Don’t know why but I was intimidated by the knowledge this man has about food. So yes now the truth is out, I am a worshiper of all things Food Network.

Arcane Guyver Comics/Manga: Naruto #1: The Tests of the Ninja

Story & Art: Masashi Kishimoto

Ninjas are pretty darn cool. They are impressive athletes, powerful spellcasters, and masters of deception. A few even review movies. And then there are ninjas so awesome, they not only refuse to cover their face but wear bright orange jumpsuits. Naruto thinks he's one of the latter.

Arcane Guyver Comics/Manga: Oh My Goddess! #27

Story & Art: Kosuke Fujishima
Translators: Dana Lewis & Christopher Lewis
Publisher: Dark Horse

Volume 27 of OMG concludes the story of Keiichi and his 'angel.' I found it sort of interesting how quickly he had become emotionally attached to the creature. I'm sure nobody will be able to predict how they seperate him and his familiar. Let's just say it involves a foe from an earlier story...and some seriously unwanted intimacy!
